Cathy Bump is the Vice President of Policy & Legal for TRUSTe. An attorney specializing in privacy and data security issues, Ms. Bump has particular expertise in financial privacy -- including the Gramm Leach Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the more recent FACT (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions) Act. She has also dealt extensively with privacy topics related to direct marketing -- including email-related issues and the CAN-SPAM Act, as well as the various federal and state telemarketing laws currently in effect.

Prior to joining TRUSTe, Ms. Bump served as in-house privacy counsel for Intuit Inc., a major financial software and Internet company with 28 consumer-facing Web sites and products such as Quicken and TurboTax software. At Intuit, Ms. Bump managed compliance with all privacy and data security-related laws, and also guided the shaping of internal and external positions on privacy and direct marketing issues and legislation.

Ms. Bump's entrepreneurial background includes co-founding and heading, for a number of years, a start-up plastics manufacturing company in a Los Angeles inner-city redevelopment zone.

Ms. Bump's public policy experience includes serving as a House of Representatives staff assistant as well as, more recently, working with the Federal Trade Commission on various compliance issues and participating in numerous federal rulemaking processes.

Ms. Bump holds a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. in political science from Stanford University.
